Your 12-Word Backup Phrase
When you create a Jaxx Liberty wallet, it generates a 12-word recovery phrase on your device. That phrase is mathematically equivalent to your wallet — anyone who holds it can restore the wallet on any device and move the funds. Treat it like cash.
Jaxx Liberty does not store your phrase on any server, cannot see it and cannot recover it for you. That is the price of self custody, and it is also why your funds are not at risk if our infrastructure is ever compromised.
- Write it down on paper — never store it in a cloud note, screenshot, email or messaging app.
- Use two separate physical copies stored in different locations so a single accident does not lose both.
- Verify it works — restore the wallet on a second device once, then delete that second copy. Confidence that the backup actually works is worth the few minutes.
- Never share it with anyone, ever. Not with support, not with friends, not with a website, not with a browser extension.
Warning: Anyone who claims to be Jaxx Liberty support and asks you for your 12-word phrase is a scammer. Do not type the phrase into any chat, form or web page outside of the official wallet recovery screen.
Restoring a Wallet
If you switch devices, lose access to your existing install or simply want to verify your backup, you can restore your wallet from the 12-word recovery phrase. The funds live on the blockchain, not on the device, so restoring is just a way of telling Jaxx Liberty which keys to use.
- Install Jaxx Liberty on the new device from the official source.
- Open the wallet and choose Restore wallet on the welcome screen.
- Type the 12 words in the exact order you wrote them down. The order matters — a swapped word will restore a different, empty wallet.
- Wait for the wallet to sync balances from the blockchain. This can take a moment depending on network conditions.
- Once balances look correct, securely destroy any extra copies of the recovery phrase that are no longer needed.
Important: If a restored wallet looks empty, double-check the spelling and the order of every word. The recovery flow is deterministic — the same 12 words always restore the same wallet.

What is the 12-word backup phrase?
It's a sequence of 12 words generated locally on your device that fully represents your wallet. Anyone with these 12 words can restore the wallet and move the funds — so it must stay private and offline.
Can Jaxx Liberty reset my password if I lose the recovery phrase?
No. Jaxx Liberty is non-custodial — we never see your phrase or your keys. If the recovery phrase is lost, the funds in that wallet cannot be recovered by anyone.
Why does my balance look different on another device?
After pairing with the same 12-word phrase, the wallet syncs from the blockchain. If you see a difference, check that you are on the same network, that the device is online, and that you waited for the sync to complete.
A transaction shows as pending. What should I do?
Most pending transactions resolve once the network confirms them. Open the integrated explorer, copy the transaction ID and check the confirmation count. Re-broadcasting or speeding up depends on the network you are on.
Why did my swap rate change?
Swap rates depend on real-time provider liquidity and network conditions. Jaxx Liberty shows the quoted rate, the estimated fees and the expected received amount before you confirm — review them carefully before approving.
Does Jaxx Liberty charge a fee?
Jaxx Liberty is free to install and use. Network fees still apply to on-chain transactions, and swap providers may charge a spread or a service fee that is shown before you confirm.
How do I add a new asset to my wallet?
Open the wallet, go to the asset list and enable the asset you want to track. If an asset is not in the list, it is not yet supported by your wallet version.
Is Jaxx Liberty available in my country?
The wallet itself works globally. Specific swap or fiat features may be restricted by the third-party providers we integrate with, depending on your region.
How do I report a security issue?
Email security@jaxx-wallet.cc with a clear description and steps to reproduce. We acknowledge reports within two business days and run a responsible-disclosure program.
